Easter often filled with many different activities like gathering with family, hunting for eggs, giving easter baskets, or eating good food. But most importantly, it’s a time to reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made for each of us, and the power over life and death that God has, the power to save us from our sins and give us eternal life.

“He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.” These are the words the Angel of the Lord told the women who came to the tomb to tend to Jesus’ body after he gave up his life on the cross. What great news that Jesus is alive. He rose from the grave, just as he said he would. This brought great joy to the women there, and caused them to go and share it with he disciples. And the news that Jesus is risen should do the same for us. Because this promise that Jesus would rise from the grave was a promise that God made many years ago and promise he kept.

When we study the bible we see that God loves us and desire us to be with Him. But sin (or disobedience to God) entered the world when the first two people, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God after doing the one thing God told them not to. And sin spread like wildfire to generation after generation to where everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, including you and me. And if left to our own, we will spend our life aimlessly searching for something to help in all the wrong places. And because of this we are in need of someone to save us, and that someone is Jesus (God in flesh) who lived a life without sin and died a death he didn’t deserve because of His love for us. But he didn’t stay dead. Three days later he rose from the grave conquering sin and death so that anyone who would believe in Him will be made right with God and get to spend eternity with Him. This is the Gospel, this is the good news, this is what brings us salvation, and this should be what we celebrate each time we study God’s word and think of Him. That God loves us so much that he made a way for us to be with Him, by believing in Jesus and His death, burial, and resurrection.

This is the news that the angel shared with women at the tomb. This is the news that the women shared with the disciples. This is the news that the disciples later share with the world. And this is news I am sharing with you today and the news that hopefully you will share with others. Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and rose from the grave just as He said he would. And he did all of that so that he could forgive us of our sins and make us right with God. When we believe in Jesus we are forgiven and made right with God, and will get to spend eternity with Him. This is good news and something we should share with others. So as you take time to reflect on that news today, may you look at your life and see where you are at in your faith. Do you believe in Jesus or not? If you know Jesus and believe in him, then don’t keep it to yourself, go and share it with other. If you have questions, I would love to talk to you more about it.
